Valence Community

For years, VCs and Founders have asked Kobie Fuller, Valence CoFounder and GP at Upfront Ventures, for advice about where they can find amazing Black talent. He had his standard answers - which were basically limited to people in his network, HBCUs and a few associations. As a Black VC, he also wanted better visibility into his own community and couldn’t believe that a centralized network of Black professionals didn’t exist yet.

As we experimented with an interactive visualization system designed to make it easy to discover and connect with this community, we received overwhelming feedback that we should bring Valence to market in a scalable and inspiring way - we’re honored to have the opportunity to share what we’ve built with you today.

Despite an increasing focus on representation across industries, only 3% of Silicon Valley’s workforce population is Black, there are 3 Black CEOs in the Fortune 500, and only 0.0006% of tech venture funding goes to Black female founders. Though Black people make up nearly 13 percent of the United States population, they hold less than 3 percent of the nation’s total wealth. Valence exists to help change this and a number of other issues faced by our community.

This is just the beginning. We have lots of work to do and are excited to roll out a ton of new experiences and content soon. Please build with us - invite amazing people to join the community and reach out with ideas and feedback about what you'd like to create together.
